tons

of links today. Well, half of the tabbed pages in Safari. Been putting them off for a while too. The new job is getting tolerable. Tomorrow morning I’m stopping by some other places to see if they’re hiring. “The Universe” wants me to do something else, I’ve been told. We’ll see.

Next weekend is the Rapha ride in Austin TX. I’m freaking excited about it. I called Mellow Johnny’s asking if they had the Rapha Jerseys in stock and was told that they are flying off the shelves in anticipation of the ride. The guy also mentioned that it was going to be massive. They have been advertising all over Austin and of course Rapha’s site as well. The kid said they hadn’t anticipated so many people signing up. Austin, here we come.

About The Bianchi:

This is Jen’s bike minus the wheel set and aero bars.. It’s a Bianchi – Reparto Corse Mega Pro. It’s a complete Campagnolo equipped beauty. This is a video of it in action from last Sunday’s Tour de France Preview on VS.

When I bought the bike back in December, last year, I noticed how light the frame was when I was stuffing it in the back of Winky. I never really rode the bike until yesterday. I love my bike, but If I’m going to be in Austin for Rapha ride, I wanted to take The Bianchi out to mingle with the rest of Austin’s elite cyclist. I might as well look the part, no? Don’t get me wrong, GRIMACE owns and all that other good stuff, but I just wanted to ease that feeling of always wanting a new bike that every cyclist goes through. So yesterday I swapped pedals on GRIMACE and hit the Bayou trail on The Bianchi. It’s effin FAST. The power transfer is nuts and feels solid as hell. On a full out sprint I hit 27 mph easy and could have gone faster if it wasn’t for the intersection. I made it to Stella Link from our place in under ten minutes. I climbed the little hills at 20 mph and my ass didn’t hurt at all over the rough parts of the trail. The compact steering feels right and I’m not stretching out to rest my hands on the drops. I rode 18 miles and ran 3, burning a total of 1300 calories in an hour and a half. Not bad for a day off. I can see how this gets addictive. Especially when you have a super sweet bike.

Today on the track at memorial park The Bianchi was super responsive. I’m jealous that it’s not mine just yet. Jen is looking to get a Dahon to commute but I don’t blame her if she wants it back for weekend rides. Perhaps upgrading the wheels and lighter pedals is all it needs for next year’s crit season. We’ll see.

Jennifer.Geometry’s Flickr photostream. She wears Tom’s Shoes, just like we do! I still need to upload our pictures of our shoes. Jen decorated hers very nicely with a simple design and glow in the dark accents. I decorated mine with some Underworld typography stencils back when Two Month’s Off came out.
